Several fights were made official for the UFC’s March 18th show in London, including the final fight of Brad Pickett’s career.
Last month, Brad Pickett fought Urijah Faber in what was Faber’s retirement fight in front of his home fans in Sacramento, California. On Saturday, March 18th, it will be Pickett’s turn to have his own farewell fight, as the UFC announced on Wednesday that he’ll be facing Henry Briones on the UFC London card. The entire event will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.
Pickett (25-13) lost to Faber by unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 22, marking his 5th loss in his last 6 fights. “One Punch” has been competing in professional MMA since 2004, and during his time with both the WEC and UFC, has accumulated a series of post-fight bonuses. He’s a five-time Fight of the Night recipient, won the since-defunct Knockout of the Night for his finish of Yves Jabouin, as well as the also-defunct Submission of the Night for his Peruvian necktie on Kyle Dietz back in the WEC. The 38-year-old also defeated Demetrious Johnson at WEC 48, handing Mighty Mouse one of his two career losses.
Briones (16-6-1) fought on season 1 of TUF Latin America, but his stint was short-lived as Marlon Vera brutally KO’d him with an upkick. The Mexican made his official UFC debut in November 2014, pulling off a submission win over Guido Cannetti. Briones lost a unanimous decision to current bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt at UFC 189, and most recently was knocked out by Douglas Silva de Andrade at UFC Portland last October.
Another notable matchup booked for this card is a welterweight battle between Vicente Luqueand Leon Edwards. Luque (11-5-1) has rattled off four straight wins, all by stoppage, including back-to-back knockouts of Hector Urbina and Belal Muhammad. Edwards (12-3) holds a 4-2 record inside the Octagon, and is coming off an impressive 3rd round rear-naked choke of the dangerous striker Albert Tumenov.
The other four fights announced for UFC London are as follows:
Bradley Scott vs. Scott Askham (Middleweights)
Marc Diakiese vs. Teemu Packalen (Lightweights)
Tom Breese vs. Oluwale Bamgbose (Welterweights)
Darren Stewart vs. Francimar Barroso (Light Heavyweights)
No main event has been confirmed, although one of the feature fights that is expected to be finalized is a light heavyweight tilt between Jimi Manuwa and Corey Anderson.
