BORNEA, YU MAKE WEIGHT FOR IBF WORLD YOUTH TITLE FIGHT

GENERAL Santos City (Feb. 25) — Undefeated Jade Bornea and his opponent Raul “Vulcan” Yu both made their weight today (Feb. 25) for their championship fight for the vacant IBF World Youth super flyweight title tomorrow at the Lagao Gym here.

A second and final official weigh-in, however, will still be made tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Sanman Gym as required by the IBF Rules according to IBF Supervisor Fritz Gaston.

“Both boxers must not exceed 10 pounds of their agreed weight of 115 lbs.,” said Gaston.

Only IBF Rules mandates boxers to have another weigh-in 24 hours after the first weigh-in or during the fight day.

Bornea tipped the scales today at 113 lbs. while Yu submitted only 112 lbs.

Also present to witness the official weigh-in today held at the Sydney Hotel were Games and Amusements Board Southern Mindanao officials led by officer-in-charge Arlene Olondrez and boxing promoters Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil and Dexter “Wang Yu” Tan.

The three other pairs, who are all vying for the separate titles in the World Boxing Federation (WBF) also had no problem with their weights today.

Eden “Sanman” Sonsona made 130 lbs. while rival Jovanny Rota had 127 lbs. for their 10-rounder fight for the vacant WBF International super featherweight championship.

Ben “Iron” Manangquil also of Sanman Stable had 117 lbs. while fGlenn “The Rock” Porras tipped the scales at exactly 118 lbs. for the vacant WBC International bantamweight title fight.

Lolito “Thunderbolt” Sonsona, on the other hand, had 114 lbs. while Renren Tesorio only made 115 lbs. for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific super flyweight championship.

“Everything is all set and all boxers are ready and excited to fight,” said WBF Supervisor Lolito delos Reyes.

Former world champion Randy “Razor” Petalcorin and his opponent Mark Florida made 110 and 111 lbs., respectively for their 8-rounder bout in the undercard.

Completing the undercard: 8 rds. – Mike “Magic” Plania (120 lbs.) vs. Jetly Purisima (118 lbs.); 8 rds. – Jayson Mama (111 lbs.) vs. Jeffrey Alejandre (110 lbs.); 6 rds. – John Vincent Moralde (130 lbs.) vs. Philip Parcon (135 lbs.); 6 rds. – Ernie Sanchez (131 lbs.) vs. Richard Betos (134 lbs.); 4 rds.- Ou Yuzhou (133 lbs.) vs. Holly Quinones (129 lbs.).

The “Laban Pinoy 3: Rise of Champions” boxing presentation of the Sanman Promotions and Solar Sports. There will also be 20 amateur bouts to raise the curtain at 1 p.m.

The “Laban Pinoy 3: Rise of the Champions” is the official boxing event of this year’s Kalilangan Festival. It is presented by the Sanman Promotions and Solar Sports and sponsored by the city government of Gensan, Mt. Sabrina Resort, Barberlife and Amoy Promotions. Admission is free to the public.
