Held in Las Vegas Nevada, the 49th World Boxing Council Convention provided  a significant signpost, pointing to a future all Mexican clash between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

During the opening ceremony, Lifetime WBC President  Don José Sulaimán, gave an historic speech to an audience of  1,200 people,  including the most outstanding exponents  of contemporary professional boxing.

Undefeated Mexican world champions  Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Saul Alvarez greeted and embraced each other during the gala dinner held in a great hall of the city’s Mandalay Bay casino hotel.

A unique moment that caught the attention of everyone present, because that night was the first time that Julio and Saul met. Chavez Jr. requested to go and greet Saúl who was accompanied by his promoter Oscar de la Hoya at his table. They embraced and saluted each other with cordial respect.

Today, six years after that poignant moment , they’ll fight in a  May 6 classic at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
