FILIPINO boxer Rey “Technician” Perez (21W-8L-0D, 6 KOs) is now very much ready to fight against the undefeated defending WBC Youth Silver super featherweight champion Lamont Roach (15W-0L, 6 KOs) for the on Nov. 30 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, USA.
“He is now very much ready” said Perez’ new manager Rey “Cacoi” Rodis II of RED Boxing International in a Facebook chat message.
Perez, a native of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte had already sparred for more than 60 rounds with fellow Filipino and reigning WBC Youth Intercontinental lightweight champion Romero “Ruthless” Duno (15W-1L-0D, 13 KOs), former USBA lightweight champion Ivan Redkach (20W-3L-1D, 16 KOs) and former USA Kansas State Super lightweight champion Herbert Acebedo (14W-2L-0D, 6 KOs).
“Perez looks great in sparring,” said Rodis, a nephew of former WBC World super featherweight champion Rene Barrientos (39W-7L-2D, 14 KOs).
Aside from Filipino trainer Jules Tagalog, the 27-year old Perez is also being trained by the coaching staff of WBA Super world featherweight champion Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (34W-1L-1D, 19 KOs) at the Santa Cruz Gym in Los Angeles.
They are Leo’s father Jose Santa Cruz, brother Antonio Cruz and chief trainer Eukita Morales.
It will be Perez’ first ring assignment under Rodis’ management.
The fight is promoted by Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions with Roberto Diaz as the matchmaker. It will be shown on USA EPN2 and web EPN3.com. (LITO DELOS REYES)
