8 Proven Finishers Thrilling The World In ONE Championship

ONEchampionship.com

There are several qualities that thread the heroes of ONE Championship together, but perhaps the most fan-pleasing theme is the shared desire to finish their opponents.

Our world-class roster is packed with charismatic athletes who have the ability to finish contests in the blink of an eye, both on the feet and on the ground.

With that in mind, we run down eight of the very best finishers in the organization.

Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon

Filipino striker Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon (17-5) has defeated eight opponents inside the ONE cage, and five of them have been dispatched inside the distance.

The Team Lakay standout has been a constant threat in the bantamweight division, and has scored notable stoppage victories over former world title challengers Toni Tauru and Reece McLaren. Also, he has handed noted submission ace Yusup Saadulaev the first knockout loss of his career.

Belingon’s wushu-inspired style stems from his background as one of the founding members of Team Lakay. Since joining ONE, he has rapidly developed into one of the most dangerous strikers on the roster.

He is seeking another highlight reel stoppage when he returns to action against former world title challenger Andrew Leone at ONE: HEROES OF HONOR in Manila, Philippines, on 20 April.

Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang

Myanmar superstar Aung La N Sang (22-10, 1 NC) may not be renowned for his one-hit knockout power, but “The Burmese Python” has shown he is more than capable of finishing bouts with strikes, or submissions.

The two-division ONE World Champion has an incredible 20 stoppage victories under his belt, a dozen of which have come by submission, and another eight by KO/TKO.

Aung La N Sang kicked off his promotional tenure with a hat trick of stoppage wins – one KO and two submissions – and last year, he added another tap out victory to his record with a first-round guillotine choke submission of Alain “The Panther” Ngalani in their Open-Weight Super-Bout.

In February, he went on to become a two-division world champion. He connected with a spectacular head kick to Alexandre Machado, and scored a TKO in a record-setting 56 seconds to claim the vacant ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship.

Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen

When it comes to one-punch finishes, Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen (10-2) is the undisputed king of the home run knockout.

The two-division ONE World Champion captured the ONE Featherweight World Title with a huge overhand right that flattened then-undefeated champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov.

Nguyen repeated the feat when he challenged Eduard “Landslide” Folayang for the ONE Lightweight World Title, perfectly timing a counter-right to knock the titleholder out in the midst of a spinning back kick, and capture his second belt in successive bouts.

The Vietnamese-Australian has a 100 percent finish rate, stopping seven opponents by KO/TKO, and three more by submission. Expect the finishes to keep coming, as he looks to defend his two world titles later this year.

Christian “The Warrior” Lee

Christian “The Warrior” Lee (9-1) may only be 19 years of age, but he is already a record holder in the ONE cage.

The Singaporean has spent his entire career in the promotion, and since his debut two and a half years ago, he has shot up the featherweight ranks. He has a perfect 100 percent finishing rate, claiming every victory of his with a spectacular finish. That also helped him set the record for most stoppage victories in the promotion with nine.

Lee’s last three performances have seen him submit Keanu Subba, finish former ONE Lightweight World Champion Kotetsu Boku via TKO, and then choke out seasoned Japanese two-division DEEP champion Kazunori Yokota.

If “The Warrior” does not get a featherweight world title shot next, one or two more inside-the-distance wins would all but guarantee his chance at glory.

“Unstoppable” Angela Lee

ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee (8-0) is not only one of the biggest stars in the company, but she is also a natural born finisher.

Like her brother Christian, the Singapore heroine has been with ONE for her entire professional career. She has seven stoppage victories including six tap outs, and of those six, five of them have come by a different submission technique.

Most recently, Lee claimed a second-round anaconda choke submission of Istela Nunes in her second title defense.

In her next bout, she will be looking to add another finish to her record against the only woman to take her the distance, Japan’s Mei “V.V.” Yamaguchi. The two meet in the main event of ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS on Friday, 18 May.

Amir Khan

With eight stoppage finishes in ONE, Singapore lightweight Amir Khan (9-3) is one of the most prolific finishers on the roster.

The 23-year-old has seven KO/TKO finishes, and one submission on his record, including stoppages of Jimmy Yabo, Rajinder Singh Meena, and Jaroslav Jartim.

The rangy striker says his stunning power comes from an unusual source. As a former golfer, Khan is used to utilizing his hips to generate power, and he has been able to take some of the hip movements from his golf swing and convert it into his punching technique.

Judging by his record, it clearly translates well. After all, he does have the most knockouts in ONE history with seven.

Ev “E.T.” Ting

With his heavy hands and sublime submissions, Malaysia’s Ev “E.T.” Ting is one of the most powerful finishers on the roster.

Ting kicked off his ONE career with back-to-back KO/TKO stoppages over Yohan Mulia Legowo and Edward Kelly, but anyone believing Ting was a one-trick pony was proved wrong.

The Malaysian’s next three wins were all secured via guillotine choke submission, as he finished Cary Bullos, Honorio Banario, and Eric Kelly.

With Ting riding a two-bout win streak, including a recent victory over fellow contender Ariel “Tarzan” Sexton, “E.T.” could soon be knocking on the door of another lightweight world title shot.

Agilan “Alligator” Thani

Known as “Alligator,” Malaysia’s Agilan Thani (9-1) has the ability to finish bouts with his power, or his grappling. He has racked up eight finishes from his nine career wins.

The 22-year-old’s go-to technique is his rear-naked choke. He has put away no less than four opponents with that move, as he moved up the welterweight ranks in ONE.

However, do not be fooled into thinking he only has one submission in his arsenal. His most recent outing saw him claim a second-round submission victory via kimura.

With his only career loss coming against undefeated welterweight world champion Ben Askren, Thani will look to parlay his finishing skills into a second title shot later in 2018.
