NHL hockey got a little more violent than usual Monday night.
Alex Ovechkin, superstar captain of the Washington Capitals, knocked out Andrei Svechnikov of the Carolina Hurricanes in a fight during the first period of game 3. The game took place at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Carolina won the game 5-1 but trails Washington in the series 2-1. Washington vs. Carolina is one of eight first-round matchups in the NHL playoffs.
After some pushing and shoving behind the play, the gloves were dropped and Ovechkin grabbed hold of 19-year-old Svechnikov’s jersey and wailed right hands at him, putting him out cold with the fourth shot that landed cleanly.

The UFC’s official Twitter account retweeted the above GIF on Monday, adding in a quote from former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor.
“You know what they say,” the tweet read. “‘Precision beats power, and timing beats speed.”
McGregor said the above quote following his 13-second knockout of former featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo in December 2015 at UFC 194. McGregor, then the interim champ, won the 145-pound title that night.
Washington is the defending Stanley Cup Champion. The winner of Washington vs. Carolina plays the winner of the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. the New York Islanders in the second round. New York is currently up on Pittsburgh 3-0 in the best-of-seven series.
