In March, Liam Conroy got a crack at the then-vacant British light heavyweight title, but despite a very game effort, the underdog was overpowered in three by Joshua Buatsi, the first loss Conroy had suffered since 2015.
Conroy (17-4-1, 9 KO) says he wants to get back to that level and try again. The 26-year-old fighter returns June 21 at Belfast’s Ulster Hall against Steven Ward, on an MTK Global show that will stream on ESPN+.
“I still want to build myself back up to the British title mandatory position. It’s still my dream and I won’t stop until I get it,” Conroy said. “Hopefully I get this fight won looking good and start building towards that. Whoever’s in the way, that’s who I’m going for.”
Ward (11-0, 4 KO) is a Belfast native, a 29-year-old nicknamed “The Quiet Man.” On paper, the fight looks pretty evenly-matched — Conroy has a few losses, but Ward is totally untested thus far as a pro.
The show also features a junior welterweight bout between Tyrone McKenna (18-1-1, 6 KO) and Darragh Foley (17-3-1, 9 KO), plus Paddy Gallagher (15-5, 9 KO) against Liam Wells (5-0, 2 KO) and more.
