The veteran is out of tonight’s Showtime card.By Scott Christ@scblh1
Veteran cruiserweight/heavyweight BJ Flores was slated to face Otto Wallin in a heavyweight bout tonight on ShoBox: The New Generation, but Salita Promotions has released a statement saying that Flores was denied a license after medical tests.
Here’s the full statement:
”As part of the licensing process in the state of Washington, the doctor appointed by the boxing commission to oversee tonight’s event reviewed medical tests and determined that B.J. Flores would not be medically cleared to compete. Based on that opinion, Washington State Department of Licensing spokesperson Gigi Zenk notified Salita Promotions this afternoon that they would not issue B.J. Flores a license to fight against Otto Wallin tonight. Due to medical privacy requirements we are unable to provide further information at this time.”
Flores (34-4, 21 KO) is 40 and coming off of a loss last August to Trevor Bryan, but he still figured to be a decent next step for Wallin (20-0, 13 KO), a 28-year-old Swedish prospect.
First and foremost, hopefully nothing serious is going on with Flores and his health. But you also have to feel for Wallin, who appears snakebit so far in 2019. In April, he made his Showtime debut, and that fight was stopped as a no-contest after the first round due to a bad cut on opponent Nick Kisner after a clash of heads. And now as he looked to make an impression on this card, his fight is pulled on the day of. Tough break for the guy to say the least.
