WBC JOINS TO GENERATE SAFE BOXING PLAN 2020

The World Boxing Council has formed a specialized working group to develop a new line of action to implement measures and procedures to continue making boxing safer.

The initial meeting was attended by:

Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar, president of the WBC

Dr. Paul Wallace, president of the WBC Medical Advisory Board

Dr. Chris Gizza, UCLA Neurology

Dr. Philip Gogglia, director of the WBC Nutrition Committee

Jose Sulaimán Saldívar, director of the WBC LA office

Jill Diamond, director WBC Cares

Dean Lohuis, Chairman of the WBC Ranking Committee

A comprehensive action plan has been established; All members of the boxing community are invited to participate.

The action plan is structured in the following phases:

  • Educational effort
  • Prevention
  • Detection
  • Treatment

A wide variety of issues are being identified to implement specific actions, including:

  • Dehydration / Hydration
  • PED´S
  • Weight Control / Nutrition
  • Activity in gym / private life
  • Science and Technology
  • Matchmaking / Administrative / suspensions

Historically, the WBC has changed many rules to make the sport safer, including the reduction of 15 to 12 rounds, comprehensive medical exams for boxers, doping tests, modifications on the day of weighing, among many others. It is time to continue this investigation to put it into action and make boxing safer.
