Upon official confirmation that former junior welterweight champions Regis Prograis (24-1, 20 KOs) and Maurice Hooker (27-1-3, 18 KOs) will be facing one another on April 17, the fighters held their opening press conference, which can be viewed in the video above.
With Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn serving as the point man behind the microphone, he directed the first question towards Prograis about wanting to be matched tough right after losing to Josh Taylor.
“Yeah, I wanted to go straight back in. For me that’s what boxing is about,” Prograis said. “A lot of people look at a loss and kind of write you off and stuff like that, or they wanna get tune up fights — for me, I don’t want it. I want the hardest fights possible, the biggest, and Maurice Hooker is a former world champion, I’m a former world champion, so for my last two years or something like that I’ve been fighting world champion, former world champion, or undefeated fighters. And it’s like, it’s no different right now.”
Soon after Hearn would ask Hooker about his thoughts on facing Prograis.
“It’s a good fight…he’s one of the best at 140 right now even though he don’t have a title. I wanna go out there and show the world that I’m the best at 140. That fight with Jose Ramirez, you know, he hit me with a good shot. I lost but I just wasn’t focused and I just wanted to fight. But this time right here, you’re gonna see a different Maurice Hooker…I’ma show them the style that my new team been working on…People don’t wanna miss this fight because I’m coming!”
