It’s been kind of a rough week for Deontay Wilder. The now-former WBC heavyweight titleholder got his belt taken via seventh round beatdown against Tyson Fury last Saturday night, and while he says he’s going to exercise his right to a third fight with Fury, which could have gotten him some immediate points, he took more hits in the media and with the public after blaming his loss on the elaborate costume he wore for his entrance.

Late on Friday night, Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO) took to social media to make a statement, promising to regain the title and rise again.

“Hello, my people, my Bomb Squad Army, my Bomb Squad Nation, all my loved ones around the world,” Wilder began. “I just wanted to let you know that I am here. Your king is here. We ain’t goin’ nowhere, for the war has just begun. I will rise again. I am strong. I am a king. They can’t take my pride. I am a warrior. I’m a king that will never give up! I’m a king that will fight to the death. And if anyone don’t understand that, they don’t understand what it is to go to war, don’t understand what it is to fight.

“We will rise again. We will regain the title. I will be back. We will hold our heads up high. Your king is in great spirit. We will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and regain the title! I’ll see you in a few months. For the war has just begun. All my love to all my people.”

It’s a little weird, but Wilder is a little weird generally and this is certainly still an emotional time for him. For his fans, it’s probably encouraging to hear from him directly, to get his promise that he’s going to get the belt back. And for anyone else, it’s a look at where he’s at right now, if nothing else.
