After fighting in June, July, August, and November of this year, “Smile’n” Sam Alvey’s first UFC appearance of 2017 is set for the end of January. FloCombat reports that Alvey will fight Nate Marquardt at UFC on FOX 23 inside the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The card is set for Saturday, January 28th.
Alvey (29-8, 1 NC) is on a three-fight winning streak, most recently taking a decision over Alex Nicholson. He also has a guillotine choke win over Eric Spicely, as well as a 2nd round TKO over Kevin Casey. His last loss was a dull unanimous decision vs. Elias Theodorou.
Marquardt (35-16-2) has won 2 of his last 3 fights. After a dramatic come-from-behind knockout of C.B. Dollaway, “The Great” was brutally stopped by Thiago Santos at UFC 198. He returned to the win column with a 2nd round punch and head kick finish of Tamdan McCrory at last month’s UFC Portland.
UFC on FOX 23 does not have a main event announced.
