July 16th, 1947.- In oven like temperatures at the Chicago Stadium ring, middleweights Rocky Graziano and Tony Zale collided for the second time. On this occasion, it was triumph for a badly cut Rocky, who roared back from the precipice of defeat, to land an almighty TKO victory, buckling “The man of steel,” in round six. The Referee of this most intense of encounters was Johnny Behr. Such was the spectacular and hair-raising action, that Ring Magazine, didn’t have the slightest hesitation of naming it “The Fight of the Year!”
