Check out which fighters received an extra $50K for their performances at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. Nogueira 2.
The second half of a UFC double-header took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A number of fighters put in noteworthy performances (the show started with six finishes in a row and ended with two more), but only four received an extra $50,000.
Performances of the Night: Thomas Almeida, Cezar Ferreira, Pedro Munhoz, and Gadzhimurad Antigulov.
Sao Paulo’s own Thomas Almeida was looking to rebound against Albert Morales. In the first round the Brazilian got his offense off, as was to be expected, but he also took some heavy shots from Morales as well. In the second round Almeida came out with guns blazing. A wicked combo staggered Morales and the follow-up punches had the previously undefeated Californian out on his feet (see highlights below). The ref came in with a late stoppage to give Almeida the win and a route right back into contention in the bantamweight division. Almeida’s record now stands at an impressive 21-1. The TKO victory was the 17th of his career.
Pedro Munhoz, another native of Sao Paulo, delighted his hometown fans with a come from behind victory over the surging Justin Scoggins. In the first round Scoggins looked to have the better of Munhoz on the feet. In the second round Scoggins was also doing well until Munhoz caught one of the South Carolinian’s kicks. From there Munhoz pounced on Scoggins neck and tied him up in a guillotine choke that forced the tap. This was Munhoz’s fifth win by guillotine in his pro career. The win took his record to 13-2 and likely secured him a crack at a top 15 bantamweight.
Cezar Mutante is now on a 3-fight win-streak after dispatching of the Swede Jack Hermansson. In the first round Mutante pieced Hermansson up on the feet, landing powerful blows to the head and body. In the second the Brazilian landed more heavy strikes, before taking Hermansson down. After avoiding a guillotine, he set up an arm-triangle choke, and squeezed (see highlights below). The Sao Paulo State native is now 7-3 in the UFC.
UFC debutante Gadzhimurad Antigulov brawled with Marcos Rogerio de Lima before deciding to take him down. On the ground the Dagestani worked his way to a guillotine choke that surprised his opponent as well as the audience. The quick submission was the 14th of Antigulov’s career. The win moved his overall record to 19-4.
