On Friday, October 30, two top Mexicans from the Zanfer Promotions will headline an explosive card in Indio, California, USA.

Mexicans Jaime Munguía and Elwin Soto will start the show as they are both en route to achieving their immediate goals while confirming their standings among the world’s boxing elite in their respective divisions: the 160 division (Munguía) and the 108 weight-class (Soto).

Both from Baja California, Mèxico, Jaime Munguía and Elwin Soto will hold high-level fights in a closed-door function that will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN.

Munguía (35-0, 28 KO’s) needs a solid win to follow up on his quest to get a shot at the middleweight world championship.

He will face former Olympian from the Bahamas Tureano Johnson (21-2-1, 15 KO’s) in a 10-rounder in Middleweight battle.

Munguía – a former WBO Super welterweight world champion with five defenses – already fought at Middleweight last January, knocking out Gary O’Sullivan in 11 rounds.

Munguía’s opponent, Johnson, is a former Olympian who reached the quarterfinals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics representing the Bahamas (he won his two preliminary bouts).

He has been a WBA Middleweight International champion, and the two losses that appear on his record have been against rivals from elite: Curtis Stevens and Sergiy Derevyachenko.

For Munguía, the goal is to contest a Mediumweight world championship in the short term.

His options are Jermall Charlo (WBC), Ryoto Murata (WBA), Kazakhstan Gennady Golovkin (FIB) and Demetrius Andrade (WBO), in addition, of course, the toughest of all: “Canelo” Álvarez.

First, Munguía must beat Johnson, and beat him good.

Will he do it?

LA PULGA SOTO DEFENDS

The other main event will feature WBO Light Flyweight World Champion Elwin “Pulga” Soto (17-1-0, 12 KO’s) defending his title for the 2nd time against experienced Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago (32-5-1, 18 ko’s), in what will be the most demanding fight for the Mexican “Pulga.”,

It will be an valuable fight in his intention to unify the 108-pound championships.

Soto – who has had training camps in San Felipe and Los Angeles — won the his 108-lbs title in June 2019 by knocking out Puerto Rican Ángel Acosta in the 12th and final round.

He defended it 4 months later against the Filipino Edward Heno, whom he beat on points.

However, challenger “Chocorroncito” Buitrago is really highly experienced and the winner of various regional boxing titles.

Buitrago has battled around the world, searching for action in his native Nicaragua, in the United States, México, 🇹🇭 Thailand, Japan, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and the Philippines against rivals such as Julián Yedras, Merlito “Tiger” Sabilo, Thammanoon Niyomtrong, Mario Rodríguez, Hiroto Kyoguchi, Ángel Acosta, McWilliams Arroyo and Félix Moncada.

For Soto, his goal is to unify his WBO Light Flyweight World Title with any of the other champions: Kenshiro Teraji (WBC), Carlos Canizalez (WBA regular), Hiroto Kyoguchi (WBA super) and Félix Alvarado (IBF).

To face any of them, “La Pulga” Soto (“La Pulga” means “The Flea”) must first pave the way by defeating Buitrago.

Can he do it?

That’s what we need to find out.

Munguía and “La Pulga” Soto in action against tough foes. May the Best Men Win.!!!
