Deontay Wilder reigned as Heavyweight King for 5 years, 1 months and 6 days.  He defended his WBC World Championship on 10 occasions including the dramatic draw against Tyson Fury back in December of 2018.  Wilder was not satisfied with having a draw in his unblemished record, so he searched for the rematch against Fury.

On February 22, 2020, Wilder met Fury for the second time at a sold-out T-Mobile Arena. A memorable event which produced one of the most spectacular ring walks by both fighters.  The atmosphere was electric, and the result was a shocking seventh round stoppage by Fury.

Wilder knocked down Fury twice in the first fight and Fury did the same to Wilder in the second.

Tyson Fury conquered glory as he became the WBC Heavyweight World Champion . He won the same green belt once held by Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Ken Norton, Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, Lennox Lewis , Vitaly Klitschko, and Deontay Wilder, among other great champions.

With a combined record of 72 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, with 63 knockouts, Fury will face Wilder for the third time this Saturday October 9 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is the 127th Heavyweight World Title fight in the WBC history. There have been spectacular rematches in the past, including:

Ali vs Liston

Ali vs Frazier

Ali vs Spinks

Holyfield vs Bowe

Holyfield vs Tyson

Lewis vs McCall

Lewis vs Holyfield

Lewis vs Rahman

Wilder vs Ortiz

Wilder vs Fury

Whyte vs Povetkin

And there have been a few trilogies in the heavyweight division, such as :

Ali vs Frazier

Ali vs Norton

Holyfield vs Bowe

And now Fury vs Wilder

The WBC has sanctioned 338 world title fights in the state of Nevada, and this will be the 44th WBC World Heavyweight Championship bout in the State. The WBC and the Nevada State Athletic Commission have always worked with harmony, respect and reciprocity.

The WBC is proud and honored to be part of this magnificent event promoted by Top Rank in association with TGB Promotions, hosted at the MGM Grand, and available in PAY PER VIEW

The WBC Board of Governors has reviewed the recent history in the Heavyweight Division.  Considering the long inactivity in the division due to the pandemic, ongoing legal processes, and covid 19 infections, the WBC has ruled that the winner of this fight will have 30 days to secure a contract to unify the Heavyweight Division against WBO-IBF-WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk in search of an undisputed champion in the division. If no unification bout is secured within that time, the winner of Fury v. Wilder 3 must then fight next against the then reigning WBC Interim Heavyweight Champion.
