The presidents of the four most important boxing sanctioning bodies held a meeting in Puerto Rico on Thursday to discuss various issues concerning boxing today and to unify criteria in different aspects.

The president of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, met with Mauricio Sulaiman (WBC), Paco Valcarcel (WBO) and Daryl Peoples (IBF), in the World Boxing Organization Executive Committee annual meeting.

The main topic was the need for a uniform process to unify titles and have more undisputed champions. Although the autonomy of each entity is something evident, what the four leaders are looking for is to agree on certain points such as tournaments to define mandatory challengers for undisputed champions and help the sport improve.

“I think this first meeting has been quite fruitful and we discussed issues that are of great concern to people today. Agreeing to name challengers, have more unified champions and give the people what they are asking for, is a task we can accomplish together,” Mendoza said after the meeting.

The schedule in Puerto Rico will continue in the coming days and the presidents of the four organizations will continue to discuss important points to reach agreements that will benefit the sport.
