In a battle of veteran former world champions, Briton Kell Brook (40-3, 28 KO’s) of Sheffield shinned bright in stalking and stopping the ever-popular Bolton-native Amir “King” Khan (34-6, 21 KO’s) in 6 riveting and exciting chapters Saturday, February 19 at the iconic Manchester Arena.
Way superior was Brook over his famous opponent, making good on his promise to ravage and dismantling him with superior skills and lethal firepower. That he certainly did.
The game and well-conditioned Amir Khan tried to jab, move, box and land meaningful hands, but was forced to trade, being absolutely bested in every aspect till the arrival of his TKO demise at the 51 second mark in round six with the full-house legendary Manchester Arena excitedly cheering.
After the battle, the two British stars – who prior to their much-awaited rumble absolutely made clear that they disliked each other – put aside their differences, embracing each other, shaking hands in the true meaning of boxing’s sportsmanship.
The visibly satisfied “Special One” Kell Brook certainly revives his career as a welterweight after his rough round 4 TKO defeat at the hands of the terrific Terence “Bud” Crawford in late 2020.
But thanks to this thrilling, outstanding win, Kell Brook is now willing to pursue a new shot at the 147-pound world title.
With his popularity in the UK intact, will Kell Brook get it? Against who? Or does still need to do some more?
It is anybody’s guess how much of a threat the 35-year-old Brook could still be against elite welterweights or perhaps super welterweights.
As for Amir, it seems to some fans that “King Khan” might have reached the end of the road in his starry 16-year pro boxing career.
Would he be seriously thinking about hanging up his boxing gloves for good, retiring from fighting with phenomenal finances? Probably yes.
The exciting, much-awaited Khan vs Brook clash promoted by Ben Shalom of Boxxer live on SKY Sports and ESPN+ did not disappoint fans.
