Filipino Bantamweight Herlan Gómez (5-0) outboxed and bested unbeaten Thai slugger Sarawut for a well-deserved six-rounder unanimous decision win Wednesday night at the SpacePlus Night Club in Bangkok, Thailand.
After getting in a bit of a trouble in the first chapter of combat, Gomez made good use of his natural aggressive stance and his superior boxing skills to dominate and control the dangerous heavy handed Thai.
Gomez cut the ring superbly, neutralising Sarawut’s ways out, stalking him with smart aggressiveness, not giving his opponent a rest nor time to think.
For such a pressure the Thai had no real boxing answer, resorting to holding and clinching for which his compatriot referee deducted a point, although Sarawut never stopped holding in excess till then remaining of the battle.
On his part, Gomez landed on Sarawut till the last second of the contest, looking for the knockout victory till the last second, and he almost get Sarawut down.
Should the fight had been scheduled to eight rounds, Gomez would have stopped Sarawut is my humble opinion.
The Thai survived the onslaught, making it to the final bell on his feet, but lost the fight to Herlan Gomez who ravaged sarawut’s undefeated record. That zero no more.
Gomez was assisted in the corner by veteran coach Joemarie Gamboa and young assistant trainer Alex Marvin Alegria, the two men proud and satisfied with Herlan’s impecable and exciting performance.
Due to his good win, it is possible that Gomez might see action again here in Thailand before the end of the year, probably for a regional belt. Time will tell.
Gomez’ Win in Thailand was a promotion of Filipino promoter Brico Santig of Highland Boxing in association with Toby Chen of SPACEPLUS Night Club and Thai Man is boxing Supanat Chanram.
Earlier in the same show, John Michael Zulueta scored a round one knockout win over Thai Somphon for a total Filipino success Wednesday here in Bangkok, Thailand.
