TAPALES RATES INOUE AS VERY GOOD, BUT IS CONFIDENT OF BEATING HIM

Filipino IBF/WBA super bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales witnessed a devastating display of wonderful boxing by Naoya Inoue Tuesday in Tokyo, BUT Tapales thinks he can beat Inoue.

Tapales was front row as Inoue made his 122-pound debut with an explosive 8-round knockout of Stephen Fulton to capture the WBC/WBO 122 pound world titles.

After the fight ended, Tapales entered the ring and both boxers verbally agreed to clash at the end of the year.

At the moment, this UNDISPUTED super bantamweight fight is scheduled for the month of December in Japan.

“I want to fight Inoue. I want to prove to myself that I am a champion,” Tapales said to a world-wide audience.

The Inoue-Tapales fight is almost certain to happen, according to reports.

The deal will be settled between former boxer and MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons of Las Vegas, and Japanese former champ Hideyuki Ohashi, Inoue’s manager and promoter of “The Monster” Inoue.

Tapales rates Inoue “very good,” but also noted some flaws that can be exploited.

The Tapalese Team feels confident of pulling off an upset.

In fact, Tapales pulled off an upset earlier this year when he secured a close split-decision win over Murodjon Akhmadaliev to capture the WBA/IBF titles.

Tapales (37-3, 19 KO’s) would seek revenge on a number of his Filipino compatriots who have been defeated by Inoue.

The best known of the group is Nonito Donaire, whom Inoue defeated in 2019 and 2022.

Inoue’s recent win made him only the second male fighter in Japanese history to become a 4-division world champion.

The other one, Kazuto Ioka, is currently the WBA super flyweight world champion.

Inoue is also the first boxer from Japan’s rich history to become an undisputed world champion in the four-belt era.
