Raquinel wins WBC Continental Americas super flyweight title

JAYR “The Dreamer” Raquinel of Negros Occidental scored a unanimous decision against Yanir Alan Frank Verdugo of Mexico to win the WBC Continental Americas super flyweight title last October 12, Saturday at the Hermosillo in Sonora, Mexico.

The 27-year-old Raquinel landed more body blows to score a convincing win against the undefeated Mexican.

Raquinel now has 17 wins with 13 knockouts, two loses and one draw while Verdugo suffered his first setback after 17 wins with 12 knockouts.

Raquinel was accompanied by manager Brico Santig and trainer Alan Alegria, a former Philippine welterweight champion.

Raquinel is also a former Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation flyweight champion and WBO Inter-Continental super flyweight champion.

Meanwhile, Nor-Farajane “Norj” Guro of Iligan City failed in her attempt to win the WBC Atomweight Championship against 16-year-old Camila “Magnifica” Zamorano of Mexicov in the main supporting bout.

The 34-year-old Guro lost by a unanimous decision to a younger and undefeated Mexican.

Guro, a former WBC Silver Atom champion and WIBA World Atom champion, suffered her 9th loss against 13 wins and one draw while Zamorano scored her 10th straight victory.

Fernando Beltran was the promoter while the matchmakers were Guillermo Brito and Conrado Guerrero Sigueros.
