Errol Spence Jr. looks like he’ll break in a new venue in Coney Island when he faces Leonard Bundu in an IBF title eliminator this August.
Fast-rising welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. appears to be getting a little star treatment. Multiple sources have confirmed to RingTV.com that Spence will likely be facing Leonard Bundu in a brand new outdoor venue in Brooklyn on August 21. The Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk is the venue expected to host PBC on NBC’s Sunday night broadcast of Spence-Bundu.
The amphitheater is a 5,000 seat venue that is partially run by the same company that runs the Barclays Center – Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. The Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk officially opened this past weekend with a performance by Ziggy Marley, and will be hosting its first boxing event when Spence-Bundu rolls around later this summer.
Spence is most recently coming off a savage beatdown of Chris Algieri in April, in a fight where he knocked out Algieri in five rounds. That fight left little doubt that Spence was no longer a prospect and ready to vie for a world title. Should Spence win this fight against Bundu, as he’s expected to, he’ll become the mandatory challenger for the winner of Kell Brook-Jessie Vargas who will unify world titles this September.
