Following their massive New Year’s Eve special in New York City, World Series of Fighting’s next event has been postponed to March.
World Series of Fighting closed out 2016 in style, as their debut event in New York featured a thrilling main event between lightweight champion and Luiz Firmino. The New Year’s Eve card averaged 951,000 viewers on NBC, with a 1.3 million peak rating for Gaethje-Firmino, by far the best viewing figures in the promotion’s four-year history.
Of course, it should be noted that WSOF scrapped two events to pave the way for their NYC quadrupleheader of title fights, and now they’ve postponed their first show of 2017. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani has the details.
“WSOF 35, slated to take place Feb. 28, has been moved to March 18, per Ray Sefo, WSOF president. The organization had yet to announce a location for the card and Sefo wouldn’t say where the new event will be held. He also wouldn’t say whether it was moving locations from the original Feb. 28 date.”
The only fight that was booked for WSOF 35 was a heavyweight title main event between reigning champion Blagoy Ivanov and UFC veteran Shawn Jordan.
Whatever the reason for the event postponement, they’ll join a busy day of combat sports on March 18th. UFC Fight Night: London on UFC Fight Pass during afternoon hours, while the night time offering is an HBO Boxing PPV special from Madison Square Garden, with Gennady Golovkin fighting Daniel Jacobs in the main event.
