Flyweight Neil Seery will not be fighting Ian McCall at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, New York.
For the fourth time in less than a year, an Ian McCall fight has been scrapped. At least this time around, McCall will have a replacement opponent. “Uncle Creepy” was scheduled to fight Neil Seery at UFC 208 on February 11th, but Seery announced on Sunday that he’s withdrawn from the matchup due to a death in the family.
“I pulled out of my fight in 2 weeks due to losing my mother in law today sorry to everyone who bought tickets but family comes first,” Seery said on his Facebook page. (H/T SevereMMA)
When this bout was first made for UFC Belfast in November, McCall (13-5-1) had to pull out due to illness, which otherwise prevented Seery (16-12) from having his retirement fight in front of his home fans.
McCall has had an extensive history of fights falling through throughout his UFC career. In fact, Seery’s UFC debut vs. Brad Pickett was the result of McCall pulling out of the March 2014 card with a torn groin injury. In more recent times, a UFC 201 fight with Justin Scoggins fell through when Scoggins had struggles with his weight cut, and less than two months later, a UFC 203 bout vs. Ray Borg was cancelled after Borg came down with an illness.
Jason Floyd has since reported that McCall will fight undefeated newcomer Jarred Brooks, who certainly wasted no time with some trash-talking.
UFC 208 is set for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and is headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie. The co-main event pits middleweight legend Anderson Silva up against Derek Brunson.
