USADA was busy today. Two UFC fighters were notified of potential doping violations by the anti-drug organization today – and one of them was already under suspension for a prior failed test. Don’t see that every day.
Ricardo Abreu, a cast member of TUF Brazil 3, was suspended for two years back in July for popping for two anabolic steroids. Today, he was informed of another potential failure stemming from an out-of-competition test taken on December 21st. He could be facing a more lengthy suspension due to this, even though he wasn’t eligible to return until July of 2018 anyway.
Abreu (5-1, 1-1 UFC) last fought in June 2015 when he lost a split decision to Jake Collier.
The other fighter that was informed of a potential violation was heavyweight Justin Ledet. His issues arose from an out-of-competition sample taken on January 12th. He had been scheduled to compete at UFC Fight Night 104 against Dmitriy Sosnovskiy this weekend, but was pulled from the card earlier this week.
Ledet (8-0, 2-0 UFC) was coming off a submission win over Mark Godbeer late last year.
It should be noted that USADA’s statement about Ledet doesn’t mention anything about a provisional suspension, nor does it name any substance he may have potentially popped for.
