The UFC on Fox show last weekend wasn’t huge on stars, but one upset did cause the 170-pound rankings to flip around a lot. Also, the recent removal of five fighters due to their free agency status caused some upheaval as well. Only two divisions remained unchanged by those factors, so let’s just skip the preamble and get right down to it.
P4P – Stipe Miocic moved up one spot to six, dropping Joanna Jedrzejczyk to the seven spot.
Heavyweight – Francis Ngannou’s scary first-round finish of Andrei Arlovski sent him up four spots in the rankings from ten to six. This dropped Mark Hunt one spot to seven, and Arlovski three spots to ten. The only other change saw Tim Johnson drop from a tie for 14th into having 15th on his own.
Light Heavyweight – The removal of free agent Misha Cirkunov caused a lot of fighters to move up a spot. Corey Anderson, Nikita Krylov, and Ilir Latifi now occupy spots eight through ten. 11 through 14 consists of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Gian Villante, Patrick Cummins, and Jan Blachowicz. Jared Cannonier enters the list for the first time at 15.
Middleweight – Thales Leites moved up three spots to 12 for some reason. Tim Boetsch moved up one to 13, bumping Uriah Hall to 14. Sam Alvey cracks the list at 15 after his UFC on Fox win.
Welterweight – First off, Rick Story and Lorenz Larkin were removed due to their free agent status. Second, Jorge Masvidal’s huge upset of Donald Cerrone sent him flying up the list. Gamebred is up seven spots to five, with Dong Hyun Kim up one to six and Neil Magny up one to seven. Cerrone fell three spots to eight. Gunnar Nelson is up one to nine, and the soon-to-be-middleweight Johny Hendricks is up one to ten. Tarec Saffiedine is up two to 11. Jake Ellenberger is up three to 12. Matt Brown is up one to 13. Kamaru Usman makes the list for the first time at 14, while Albert Tumenov is ranked again at 15.
Lightweight – Gilbert Melendez passed Donald Cerrone for the 11 spot. Let’s run this back here – Melendez, the guy that says he’s going to featherweight and hasn’t won a fight since 2013, passed Cerrone, who has fought five times in a row at welterweight. On the lightweight list. Yeah.
Featherweight – No changes.
Bantamweight – Raphael Assuncao’s timid win over Aljamain Sterling moves him up a spot to three, bumping John Lineker to four. Jimmie Rivera also passed Bryan Caraway for the five spot. Finally, Iuri Alcantara re-enters the list at 15.
Flyweight – This article will explain all the changes here.
Women’s Bantamweight – Julianna Pena’s submission loss to Valentina Shevchenko dropped her two spots to four, allowing Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey to move up one each to two and three.
Women’s Strawweight – No changes.
