The UFC Houston main event ended fairly early, as featherweight contender Dennis Bermudez was dropped by a Chan Sung Jung uppercut, and The Korean Zombie came away with a round 1 KO win in less than three minutes. For Jung, who recently completed his two-year mandatory military service in South Korea, this was first fight since losing to Jose Aldo in August 2013, and his first win since stopping Dustin Poirier in 2012.

In the post-fight press conference, Bermudez believed that Herb Dean’s decision to stop Saturday’s fight was a premature call, even though he was trying to take Dean down.

“I thought it was a little bit early of a stoppage,” Bermudez said (transcription via MMAjunkie). “I know I was on Herb’s leg. Like, I knew (Jung) was there trying to hit me, so I was shooting on him. It’s just Herb was – I know Herb was doing his job just to keep us both safe in there.

“But yeah, I had a big platform to make a rise to the top, and it didn’t go our way tonight.”

Knockdowns have been a major problem for Bermudez. Heading into Saturday’s main event, he’d been dropped six times in his UFC career, and the loss to Jung makes it seven knockdowns suffered in thirteen UFC fights. While Bermudez had been able to avoid the knockout loss for much of his career, Jeremy Stephens and now The Korean Zombie have both finished him with strikes less than two years apart.
