UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will rematch Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 on May 13th.
Miocic vs JDS 2 looks to be set for UFC 211 in Dallas! Who do you have winning this rematch?
Stipe Miocic’s second defense of his UFC heavyweight title will be in Dallas, Texas. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani confirmed that Miocic is set to rematch Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 on Saturday, May 13th. Brazilian media outlet Combate had the original report. UFC officials have not yet confirmed the fight, but are expected to do so in a matter of days.
Miocic (16-2) became heavyweight champion last year with a stunning one-punch KO of Fabricio Werdum in the UFC 198 main event in Curitiba, Brazil. Having conquered Werdum in his home country, Miocic returned to his home state of Ohio, and successfully defended his title with a come-from-behind KO of Alistair Overeem, at UFC 203 in September. Stipe’s last loss was to dos Santos, in a thrilling five-round unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 13 in December 2014.
Dos Santos (18-4) bounced back from a TKO loss to Alistair Overeem with an impressive five-round unanimous decision victory over Ben Rothwell, at UFC Zagreb in April. Shortly thereafter, the Brazilian was sidelined after undergoing shoulder surgery. The former UFC champion was scheduled to fight Stefan Struve at UFC Halifax on February 19th, but Struve withdrew due to injury, and JDS was pulled from the card. Now he upgrades to a title fight against a man he’s beaten before.
There’s no word on whether or not this will be UFC 211’s main event, but chances are it will be the headlining act at the American Airlines Center.
