Antonio Margarito vs Ramon Alvarez set for August 13

Antonio Margarito’s next fight is set, as he’ll face Ramon Alvarez in August.

Antonio Margarito’s second comeback fight of 2016 is now officially set for August 13 in Rosarito, Mexico, where he’ll face Ramon Alvarez, the older brother of Canelo, in a 10-round junior middleweight main event. The fight had previously been set for a pair of July dates.

Margarito (39-8, 27 KO) returned from an absence of over four years with a win on March 5 against Jorge Paez Jr. It was an exciting, action-packed fight, but the 38-year-old Margarito certainly looked his age, as well as rusty. He says he’s feeling sharper for this upcoming bout.

Alvarez (23-4-2, 15 KO) is a fringe contender at best, who has gone unbeaten in his last 10 fights, nine wins and a no-contest. He’s beaten the likes of Omar Chavez, Vivian Harris, Ben Tackie, and James Winchester during that streak. The 29-year-old is the level of opponent Margarito should be fighting, if indeed Margarito should be fighting at all, which is questionable for various reasons.

Unbeaten bantamweight Luis Nery (19-0, 13 KO) will also be featured on the card against an opponent to be named.
