The supporting cast for CBS’s March 4th blockbuster between Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia is taking shape, as two matchups were recently confirmed. Erickson Lubin will take on Jorge Cota at super welterweight, while Andrzej Fonfara makes his return against Chad Dawson up at 175.
Lubin (17-0, 12 KO) rumbled on in 2016 with three knockouts in four wins, earning “Prospect of the Year” from The Ring in the process. Cota (25-1, 22 KO), who hasn’t fought since battering Yudel Jhonson in August of 2015, was supposed to be part of a hilariously ill-fated WBC super welterweight tournament and figures to be a solid test for “The Hammer.”
We just recently passed along World Boxing News’s interview with Fonfara (28-4, 16 KO), who will be making his first ring appearance in nearly nine months. Dawson (34-4, 19 KO) knocked out Cornelius White in April and was set to face Eleider Alvarez in July before pulling out with an injury.
Lubin vs. Cota should be a ton of fun, at least, and Fonfara vs. Dawson features two guys with a lot of lingering questions. One destructive fight, one instructive fight.
