The fight to unify the featherweight titles finally appears to be set. After Max Holloway defeated Anthony Pettis for the interim UFC 145-pound title at UFC 206, he called out champion Jose Aldo for a unification bout at UFC 208. They weren’t able to put that together, but it appears they are set to go at UFC 212 in Brazil.
The confirmation started with UFC president Dana White telling Brett Okamoto of ESPN on his 5ive Rounds podcast that the bout was done, but he couldn’t remember when they were fighting:
But Brazilian outlet Combate came through with the confirmed date not long after – June 3rd in Brazil at UFC 212.
Aldo (26-2, 8-1 UFC) won an interim title when he defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. He was promoted to full champion when the man that originally beat him for the title, Conor McGregor, was forced to relinquish the belt by the promotion.
Holloway (17-3, 13-3 UFC) picked up his interim belt with the win over Pettis. He is currently on a 10-fight winning streak.
It’s unclear if this will be the main event of the card right now, but you’d have to figure it probably will be.
