World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion Miguel Ángel “Alacrán” Berchelt (31-1-0, 28 KO’s) returned to his roots, visiting the “Kuchil Ka’atun” at the Sports Unit “José María Morelos” where he was greeted by the youngsters Cancun.
Miguel was welcomed by the President of the Boxing and Wrestling Commission of Benito Juárez, Eliseo González, who was accompanied by the former WBC featherweight world champion Rodolfo “Rudy” López and dozens of young fighters. Apt, because this is where Miguel started to put his dreams into practical combination action.
As he himself encouraged: “Never stop dreaming, always fight for what you want, so when you apply dedication all things are possible. I wanted to be world champion and I triumphed. I want you to continue showing that in Cancun there`s a lot of talent. Here we have ‘Rudy ‘, Joselito Velázquez and myself, but…we want more champions!”
A memorably emotional moment, when Miguel met with his first coaches Ladislao “Chino” Celis and Adrián “Cubano” Núñez.
Miguel has a lot of sand, stressing: “Of course I want to face Takashi Miura, I want to face the best fighters, but that’s something that my promoter will check out. I think Miura is still not ready to face me, because of the war he had with Roman, and everything seems to indicate that I will have a chance for a voluntarily defence. We`re looking into to that.”
And fighting in his native Cancun? “Of course that’s another of my dreams. We have already had talks with” Golden Boy Promotions “to make a defense here, while the other option is Merida, but that is something that will define plus decide later.”
“Alacrán” revealed that next on week he will travel to Merida to check out some issues about his Visa and will return to Cancun to stay the rest of February, before returning to the gym.
