An intriguing welterweight matchup will serve as the co-main event for UFC London on Saturday, March 18th. The UFC announced on Tuesday that Gunnar Nelson will take on Alan Jouban, who is seeking his fourth consecutive win and the biggest one of his career.
Nelson (15-2-1) rebounded from a one-sided loss to Demian Maia with an impressive rear-naked choke finish of Albert Tumenov at UFC Rotterdam in May. The Icelandic BJJ specialist was scheduled to fight Dong Hyun Kim in the UFC Belfast main event in November, but was pulled from the card after suffering an ankle injury. Nelson is currently #9 in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.
Jouban (15-4) had a fairly active 2016, winning all three of his fights. He quickly put away Brendan O’Reilly in March, won a Fight of the Night thriller against Belal Muhammad in July, and handed Mike Perry his first career defeat with a unanimous decision win in December. The 35-year-old’s last loss was by TKO to Albert Tumenov.
UFC London is headlined by a light heavyweight contest between Jimi Manuwa and Corey Anderson. The entire card will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.
