UFC fighter rankings: Derek Brunson drops after UFC 208 loss

There wasn’t a lot going on in terms of rankings changes after UFC 208.

Derek Brunson feels like he robbed by the judges after his UFC 208 bout against Anderson Silva, and he’s got a good case. Unfortunately for him, Silva was gifted a win, and it actually cost Brunson a spot in the rankings as well.

Why are we leading with a guy losing one spot in the rankings? Well, UFC 208 wasn’t just a really bad card – it was a fairly irrelevant card too. A brand new title that doesn’t even have a rankings list yet. A big favorite (Jacare Souza) beating a guy well below him. A controversial middleweight bout featuring guys in the middle of the rankings. Aaaand that’s about it.

Let’s just get to the really minor changes to the rankings and get this over with.

P4P – T.J. Dillashaw fell two spots from 12 to 14, allowing Max Holloway to move up one to 12 and Khabib Nurmagomedov to move up one to 13.

Heavyweight – No changes.

Light Heavyweight – Volkan Oezdemir, who upset Ovince Saint Preux at the event before UFC 208, passed Ilir Latifi and moved up to number ten.

Middleweight – Brunson dropped one spot to nine, allowing Vitor Belfort to move up one to eight. Anderson Silva stayed at seven. Uriah Hall also moved up one to 13, passing Tim Boetsch.

Welterweight – Neil Magny moved up one spot to five, dropping Jorge Masvidal to six.

Lightweight – Francisco Trinaldo moved up one to 11, dropping inactive Gilbert Melendez to 12.

Featherweight – In an odd situation, there’s a three-way tie for seven. Charles Oliveira occupied the sport alone before, but now Yair Rodriguez and Chan Sung Jung are there too.

Bantamweight – Rani Yahya moved up one spot to 13, bumping Pedro Munhoz to 14.

Flyweight – Sergio Pettis moved up one to six, dropping hard-luck Ian McCall down to seven.

Women’s Bantamweight – Despite fighting for a title in another division, Holly Holm only dropped two spots from two to four. This allowed Ronda Rousey to move back up to the two spot, with Julianna Pena also moving back up to three.

Women’s Strawweight – Felice Herrig moved up one to 11, passing Jessica Aguilar.
