Terry Flanagan remained undefeated and retained his WBO lightweight title today in Manchester with a victory over Petr Petrov. Scores were 116-112, 118-110, and 120-108. BLH had it 116-112.
Flanagan (33-0, 13 KO) didn’t have to do anything special, and turned in a workmanlike performance with the win over Petrov (38-5-2, 19 KO), a tough but limited challenger who didn’t seem to have a plan B after A failed.
Liam Smith came away with a controversial win over Liam Williams, in a fight that surely demands a rematch, scoring a TKO-9 when the fight was stopped due to a cut on Williams’ eyelid. Williams (16-1-1, 11 KO) led by one point on all three cards at the time of the stoppage.
The controversy comes from debate over whether a punch or headbutt caused the cut in the first place. Officially, it was a punch. Smith (25-1-1, 14 KO) does not win the interim WBO junior middleweight title, however, as he missed weight for the fight.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Nicola Adams made her pro debut with a four-round shutout win over Virginia Noemi Carcamo, on a score of 40-36.
