The UFC 210: Cormier vs. Johnson 2 preliminary card in Buffalo, New York is now complete following the four bouts on Fox Sports 1. Myles Jury destroyed Mike De La Torre, Kamaru Usman emphatically showed that he’s a future contender at welterweight, Shane Burgos rallied from two rounds down to put away Charles Rosa, while Patrick Cummins came back from a poor start to defeat Jan Blachowicz. Here’s how the fights played out.

Myles Jury def. Mike De La Torre by TKO (strikes) at 3:30 of round 1 – Featherweights

Jury easily took De La Torre down and put on a grappling clinic from there. He brilliant took the back of “El Cucuy” and locked in the body triangle. After abandoning the rear-naked choke attempt, Jury flattened out his opponent and unleashed ferocious ground-and-pound. Big elbows busted De La Torre’s face up, he wasn’t fighting back, and Dan Miragliotta stopped it as Jury was landing even more punches. A vicious beatdown courtesy of “Fury” Jury, who gets back in the win column after losing his last two. De La Torre has won just twice in seven UFC fights.

Kamaru Usman def. Sean Strickland by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26) – Welterweights

Usman was excellent in the first round. He said he was hit in the groin but referee Keith Peterson said the shot was fine. After that moment, Usman charged forward for a takedown, and while he couldn’t complete it, he stayed active with knees to the head and to the thigh. When the fight did go to the mat, Strickland scrambled for a leg, but Usman maintained top pressure and busted up his foe with ground-and-pound. An elbow bruised Strickland under his left eye.

The striking of Usman was the story of round two, as he flashed a solid jab and had Strickland backing up repeatedly. A brutal right hand dropped Strickland and somehow he didn’t go out. Usman fought off the leglock and he spent some time on top. Strickland did end the round back on his feet but severely damaged and with his left eye further compromised.

The doctor checked on Strickland in between rounds 2 and 3, but left the fight continue. Usman was relaxed, loose, and just destroying Strickland everywhere. He took him down early in the third and kept adding to his strike tally. Strickland made it back to his feet, only to be worked over even more. Usman even switched to southpaw and found success there. An extremely impressive win for Usman, who is now 5-0 in the UFC. Strickland experiences defeat for only the second time of his career.

Shane Burgos def. Charles Rosa by TKO (punches) at 1:59 of round 3 – Featherweights

Rosa set a tremendous pace with a slew of spinning and jumping kicks. Burgos was active with his hands and sharper with his boxing in an entertaining round 1. Rosa tried everything to keep Burgos off his rhythm, but Burgos did well to maintain efficient striking.

Burgos stuffed Rosa’s takedown attempt to start the 2nd round. Rosa continued to throw leg kicks and it certainly had an effect on Burgos’ movement. Burgos absorbed a spinning backfist and then answered with a knee to the body. Admittedly, he wasn’t landing as cleanly on Rosa in round 2 as he was in round 1. The volume of Rosa remained consistently high.

Rosa was in on a takedown but Burgos effectively punched his way out of it. A big right uppercut and left hand hurt and dropped Rosa. He was sent tumbling across the cage and Burgos went in for the kill. Another right hand decked Rosa. The New Yorker continued to slam home clean shots and Rosa was stopped while standing. His legs were gone and he was out on his feet. “Hurricane” Shane is now 2-0 in the UFC, having sent Rosa to 2-3 inside the Octagon.

Patrick Cummins def. Jan Blachowicz by majority decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28) – Light Heavyweights

Cummins was immediately hurt with an uppercut and Blachowicz searched for the finish. He survived the onslaught and landed some strikes of his own but kept eating heavy uppercuts that had him wobbly. Cummins bravely stayed upright despite getting heavily tagged, and a takedown certainly helped him see out round one.

It was a much better round two for Cummins, who took Blachowicz down and fended off submission attempts before unleashing ground-and-pound. He lost control of Blachowicz, who got to his feet and briefly took Cummins down, but Cummins wasn’t held down for long. Blachowicz was still outlanding Cummins on the feet but he was exhausted. The Polish fighter had his hands on his knees and had a lazy shot stuffed before the round ended.

Cummins pushed forward with several strikes to start round 3. He avoided Jan’s uppercut and took Blachowicz down again. Cummins dominated him with ground-and-pound. Blachowicz did score with several body kicks, only to wind up on his back again and eating more strikes while completely exhausted. A tremendous rally by Cummins to get the majority decision win over Blachowicz, who is 1-4 in his last 5.
