UFC welterweight Donald Cerrone apologizes for his use of a homophobic slur to describe Daniel Cormier’s UFC 200 performance against Anderson Silva.

“Earlier today, I said something that was offensive & I’m truly sorry,” the UFC welterweight said. “I’ve got so many friends and fans in the LGBTQ community who I let down today. I can and will be better because I respect the community and equality matters!”
Cerrone and CM Punk took part in a special “UFC 200 Aftermath” Fan Expo Q&A on Sunday. “Cowboy” revealed that the worst fight of International Fight Week 2016 for him was Cormier’s win over Anderson Silva on the main card of UFC 200. The light heavyweight champ grinded out Silva for three rounds in the short notice non-title fight, winning by 30-26 unanimous decision on all three judges’ scorecards.
“Terrible. How are you going to give up weight and then fight like a f-g, man?” he said. “Anderson is giving up 30 pounds, flies in, two days notice, fights [Cormier], you’re — f-cking stand and fight, motherf-cker!”
Cerrone’s controversial comments came directly after Amanda Nunes became the first openly gay UFC champion in the landmark’s card main event. The UFC also recently revealed “We Are All Fighters” shirts and a partnership with the LGBTQ Center in Las Vegas to promote equality among the LGBTQ community.
