Mairis Briedis of Riga, Latvia won the vacant World Boxing Council cruiserweight title by unanimous decision defeating Marco “Captain” Huck in the Westfalenhalle of Dortmund, Germany .
Huck had a pair of wins against tough opponents such as Ola Afolabi and Dmytro Kucher but was categorically beaten by the new champion with 116-111, 117-110 and 118-109 cards.
Briedis, who works as a police officer in his country, was recognized by high-ranking police officers with a high-grade honor medal, not only for having won the WBC’s green and gold world title, but also for his courageous work and for being a great Law and order organization.
The WBC congratulates and is proud of our champion Maris Briedis for being an exemplary person inside and outside the ring.
