Joanna Jedrzejczyk gave major props to American Top Team for what she deemed as her best career performance at UFC 211.
One of the noteworthy fights on the UFC 211 card on Saturday night in Dallas was the co-main event strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade. “Joanna Champion” successfully defended her belt for the fifth straight time via a landslide unanimous decision verdict, putting her one title defense shy of Ronda Rousey’s record.
Jedrzejczyk already showed dominance during her first couple of title defenses, but she believes she was able to improve further when she moved to the Florida-based American Top Team in 2016. After putting on what she believed was her best career performance against Andrade, the reigning women’s 115-pound champion once again gave major props to her current fight team.
“Yes, I think so, even if I’m getting older. I feel this fire, and I want to learn,” Jedrzejczyk said during the post-fight presser (via MMA Fighting). “Since I moved to American Top Team, I feel like I’m the bird that got to escape from its cage, if you know that meaning. I’m very hard on myself everyday, you can ask my coaches, and after a good training session, I’m not happy because I know I can do better or change something to do better, you know? That’s why I keep on defending this belt.”
Jedrzejczyk has barreled through every opponent put in front of her, and is considering the possibility of moving up in weight to become a two-division world champion. But for now, her main priority is to take a little break before going back to the grind.
“I don’t know who’s going to be my next opponent right now. I’m happy about this fight and I’m looking forward to spend some time with my fiancé and my family,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I will have some vacations, and after that, I will think about my next fight. I don’t care who’s my next opponent, I will put on great work and defend this title for a sixth time.”
