EMMANUEL “The  Game Boy” Tagoe of Ghana retained his WBA International lightweight title after his Filipino challenger Carlo “The Ferocious” Magalit quit during the rest period due to exhaustion in the 9th round last Friday, July 15 at the Accra Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana.

Magali, who travelled all the way from the Philippines, was already very tired midway going to the scheduled 12-round title-fight.

“Masyado na siyang pagod dahil siguro sa layo ng biyahe naming din papunta ditto mula Pilipinas,” (He was already very exhausted maybe because of our long trip coming from the Philippines) said trainer Joven Jorda in a message.

“Kaya pinatigil ko na lang dahil nakikita kong pagod na siya masyado,” (I had to stop already the fight after seeing that he was very tired already) said Jorda.

Magali, who is both the current Orient Pacific Boxing Association (OPBF) interim super featherweight title-holder and IBF Pan Pacific super featherweight champion, suffered his 7th defeat against 20 wins (10 Kos) and 3 draws.

Tagoe, on the other hand, scored his 26th win against only one loss.

Meanwhile, welterweight Dodzi Kemeh (18-1-0) kept his WBA International lightweight crown against Stephen Okine (12-13-1).  – LITO DELOS REYES
