WBC Female Super middleweight Champion Nikki Adler successfully defended her title Friday night by knocking out Elene Sikmashvili in the ninth round.
Adler clearly dominated the fight while Sikmashvili tried to survive by attempting to transform it into a seeming Pier Six Brawl. The Champion had problems with the awkward style of the challenger and took time to range find to effectively land her punches on Sikmashvili. There was lots of seemingly incessant clinching and holding.
Referee David John Irving did a good job breaking the fighters apart and trying to keep ebbing action flowing.
All three judges gave all rounds to Adler so it was 40-36 on all cards after four, and 70-63 on all cards after seven rounds.
Adler finally connected with a heavy solid right hand straight through the middle in the ninth round, which sent Sikmashvili hard to the canvas. The tough Georgian tried to beat the count but didn’t make it back to her feet in time.
The fight was the co-feature of a very entertaining event promoted by SES Boxing (Ulf Steinforth) in association with Doberstein Promotions held in front of 3,000 appreciative fans at Saarlandhalle in Saarbruecken, Germany.
