GENERAL Santos City, Philippines (June 11) — Malaysian boxing superstar Muhamad Farkhan made an impressive debut in the Philippines by knocking out Marlon Alta of Maitum, Sarangani Province in the second round last Saturday night at the Robinson’s Mall here.
Farkhan, who defended himself well against Alta’s attack in the first round, landed two solid body shots to end the 6-rouder fight in the last remaining 20 seconds of the 2nd round.
Alta, a former WBC Youth Intercontinental middleweight champion failed to stand up already after he fell down near the ropes.
The 28-year old Farkhan remained undefeated with four straight wins all by knockout. He is the current WBC Asian Boxing Council light heavyweight champion and a former WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver cruiserweight title holder.
Farkhan also won the vacant WBC ABC light heavyweight crown by stopping Japhet Kaseba of Tanzania last January 7 at the Johor International Convention Center in Johore Bahru, Malaysia.
The 5-foot-9 Farkhan earlier won the vacant WBC ABC Silver cruiserweight crown via a 2nd round TKO win over Indonesian Elly Pangribuan last year in Singapore.
Alta also fought but lost to Japanese Makato Fuchigami by retirement in their battle for the vacant OPBF middleweight title in 2012 in Tokyo, Japan.
Alta, who stands 5’10, also bowed to Australian Zac Dunn for the WBC Youth World super middleweight title in 2013.
“I’m truly happy that I won my first fight here in the Philippines. I’m planning to be back here to train at Sanman Gym,” said Farkhan, who also plans to promote in September in Malaysia.
“I like it here, the people are nice and it’s safe,” said Farkhan, who was also congratulated by 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao’s chief trainer Freddie Roach after the fight.
