For those that thought her loss to Holm might have dampened Correia’s resolve, the UFC bantamweight shows no signs of stopping.
Say what you will for her performance against Holly Holm in Singapore, even being on the wrong end of a brutal headkick KO doesn’t seem to have slowed Bethe Correia’s roll any. The former bantamweight title contender used a pair of wins over Ronda Rousey’s teammates and some brash trash talk to get her shot at the then champion. And while she lost the bout, her un-checked confidence has kept her as a prominent figure in the 135 division.
In that vein, then, Correia appears to be firing on all cylinders. Following her second KO loss of her career, she took to Instagram to issue a statement about her latest setback.
“I want to congratulate Holly for the fight. Even though she was coming from three losses she didn’t quit and hide, and fought me on the main event. I want to thank all my fans, partners and team. I won’t return with the victory I dreamed of, but I return with my head held high with a dream to fight in Asia realized and being a protagonist of the night. A dream a lot of people have but never realized. I can only say this to my fans that like Bethe Correia: I WILL BE BACK STRONGER THAN EVER! YOU CAN BE SURE OF IT!!!!!”
Correia is 1-2-1 since losing her bout against Rousey back in 2015. However, in a division starved for new and rising talent, it seems likely that fans will see her again in the Octagon in the not too distant future.
