For the first time in Puerto Rico, a professional boxing match will take place with the WBC Youth super lightweight championship on the line.
The belt will be contested by the pride of Aguas Buenas, Yomar “The Magic” Álamo (13-0, 10 KO’s) versus Hungarian, Zsigmond Vass (13-5, 2 KO), on August 19, in the Coliseum Samuel ‘Sammy’ Rodríguez in Aguas Buenas.
Alamo previously conquered the WBC FECARBOX title by defeating Edgardo ‘Indio’ Rivera by TKO, so the undefeated Puerto Rican will be trying his utmost to win his second belt, in order to rise in the WBC rankings.
Undefeated Alamo commented: “I will continue climbing the mountain until I become a world champion. I will not stop. My training has always has been very exacting and we will see its results inside the ring. ”
“The card is called ‘Honor in the Mountain’ because for us, it is a great honor to present these great fighters who will give much to talk about in Puerto Rico and worldwide. “Said Carlos Maldonado of Black Tiger Promotions.” We will be helping St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We will give one dollar from each ticket we sell to cooperate with them in their great cause.”
The promoter Enrique ‘Quique’ Román of Empire Boxing Promotions, stated: “We are ready to offer a great card to the people of Aguas Buenas and we want to invite the fans of the other towns to visit Aguas Buenas and enjoy a card with 2 WBC title fights, among other competitive bouts. ”
On the undercard, former London 2012 Olympian Jantony Ortiz (7-0, 4 KO’s) from Junuma’s Humacao neighborhood will be contesting for his first boxing title when he faces Chilean Robinson Lavinanza (11- 4-1, 4 KO) for the WBC FECARBOX belt of the 118-pound division.
World Boxing Council Member José “Toto” Peñagarícano explained: “Yomar and Jantony had wonderful accomplishments in amateur boxing. Many of the great WBC champions started with the youth and the FECARBOX titles. The WBC is active in Puerto Rico. ”
The card is promoted by Empire Boxing Promotions in association with Black Tiger Promotions. 1 dollar of each ticket sold will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Tickets will be sold soon at Fangig.com & Gustazos.com
