KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The Cartel International Promotions has made its mark in the Malaysian professional boxing scene with yet another exciting night of boxing action last August 12 at the Shamelin Shopping Mall.
Billed as “The Battle of Champions”, the boxing card was promoted by Vikram Sivapragasam and supervised by Damrong Simakajornboon of the WBC Asian Boxing Council from Thailand.
It had seven exciting bouts featuring the top prospects from the Vladimir Boxing Stable squaring off against seasoned professional boxers from across the peninsula and the world.
The co-main event saw WBC Asia Boxing Council Continental super bantamweight champion Jeson “Dynamite Fist” Umbal (15-5-0, 10 KOs) of the Philippines retaining his title via a 7th round technical knockout against Arief “The Ice” Blader (23-23-2, 12 KOs) of Indonesia.
Blader, 31, endured severe blow to the nose that caused excessive bleeding forcing referee Nus Ririhena to stop the bout in 2:46 of the 7th round.
In the main event, top seed middleweight contender Azizbek “AAA” Abdugofurov of Uzbekistan outclassed Jeremiah ‘Young Tyson’ Malinyingi (8-3-1, 2 KOs) from Tanzania with absolute power and exceptional footwork to secure a unanimous decision victory.
All three judges Nus Ririhena (78-74), RA Nadeak (77-75) and Dean Chu (80-72) scored in favor of the Uzbek fighter, who remained unbeaten with seven straight wins and four knockouts.
The boxing show kicked off with promising Malaysian featherweight prospect Yuvan Mita Devar (1-0, 1 KO) making his impressive debut via a first round knockout win over Amirulfadzli Pendi (0-3).
The 17 year-old Devar carved history after being the youngest professional boxer Malaysia has ever seen since post World War 2 and making this young stud synonymous to famous featherweight legend ‘Baby Arizmendi’.
Another notable performance by a boxer making his professional debut was Latvias Roman Seredjuks (1-0,1 KO). The tall and physically defined exponent matched his looks with exceptional boxing skills, capitalizing on his long reach to secure a TKO victory over his Indonesian opponent Satria Antasena (6-9, 2 KO).
Former Malaysian Games gold medalist Theena Thayalan also scored a unanimous decision victory over Indra Anser (2-2) of Indonesia to keep his unblemished record with three straight wins and one knockout.
The 19-year old Thayalan never failed to charm the audience with his warranting boxing skills. It was his second win in just one month. Thayalan made his successful pro debut last July 9 with a first round knockout against Yudi Hartanto at the Mid Valley Exhibition Center.
He followed it up with a unanimous decision win over Rocky Irawan Sikumbang last Aug. 4 at the Far East Square in Singapore.
The excitement at the ground floor of the Shamelin Shopping Mall last Aug. 12 continued when top featherweight prospect Muhammad Shehran (3-0,1 KO) fought fellow Malaysian boxer Eddey ‘The Clown’ Kalai (0-2).
Both fighters staged a boxing match that was by far the most entertaining fight of the night. Shehran scored four striking knockdowns which were direct implications of solid shots to the body of Kalai.
Amidst consistent retaliation by Kalai, Shehran still earned a unanimous decision after four hard-fought rounds.
In the other 4-rounder, lightweight Asadbek Ayazov of Uzbekistan won his debut by a unanimous decision against Boido “Bulldozer” Simanjuntak (23-48-2) of Indonesia.
“Stay with us for great nights of pugilistic action in times to come,” said promoter Vikram Sivapragasam.
