Flyweight prospect Justin Scoggins is out of this weekend’s UFC 201 main card opener vs. Ian McCall due to weight cutting issues.
Justin Scoggins is out of his pivotal flyweight bout against Ian McCall at UFC 201this weekend due to weight cutting issues. His father, Chris Scoggins, confirmed the news to BloodyElbow.com. UFC officials have not announced the bout’s cancellation at the time of this article’s publish.
Scoggins vs. McCall was the first scheduled pay-per-view bout of the night.
“We just had to make a horrible, disappointing call,” Chris said. “Justin could not get below 132.5 pounds. He was all good and his body just stopped allowing the weight to come off. No sweating, nothing. That’s too much [of a] weight difference for a catchweight so Justin is out. This is horrible.”
It is unknown at this time whether a replacement to fight “Uncle Creepy” on very short notice will be sought.
Scoggins (11-2) is one of the top up-and-comers at 125 pounds. He’s currently riding a two-fight winning streak, with victories over Ray Borg and Josh Sampo. He recently told BloodyElbow.com’s The MMA Circus that he is considering a move up to bantamweight.
UFC 201 takes place live from the Philips Arena in Atlanta on Saturday, July 30. In the main event, UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler defends his belt against Tyron Woodley.
