Cable giant Fox whets fight fans’ appetites for Mayweather-McGregor
The featured bout of Mayweather-McGregor Preliminary action on Fox featured a mild upset as 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist Yordenis Ugas outgunned former title challenger Thomas Dulorme (24-3) by a slim unanimous decision.
Ugas (20-3 9KO) a late replacement for Shawn Porter, dropped Dulorme twice in the second round. However, after absorbing punishment throughout the middle rounds, Dulorme roared back with a punishing eighth round knockdown of his confident opponent.
While both fighters showed appropriate desperation during their crossroads encounter, Ugas did just enough to win his fourth fight since a 2016 return.
The former 2005 amateur world champion missed two years following consecutive 2014 setbacks.
To begin televised undercard action, “Money Team” Welterweight Juan Heraldez (13-0 8KO) showcased high-level skill before facing survival mode vs. 19-year-old prospect Jose Borrego (12-1 11KO).
Ahead on all three judges’ cards, 25 minutes of masterful Heraldez work was nearly erased by one sturdy ninth-round Borrego hook. Though, after absorbing his hard-charging foes best, Heraldez regained equilibrium en route to a unanimous decision victory.
The speed, ring-generalship, and boxing acumen displayed by Mayweather’s unbeaten ex sparring partner will no doubt open bigger doors for the talented 27-year-old Welterweight moving forward.
