Debutant Martin Quinn predicts 2nd Round KO – aiming to do better than “average” Irish rival

Nothing in the world was going to stop Martin Quinn from making his professional debut on Saturday night.

The Crumlin lightweight suffered a broken rib at the start of camp, trained the entire way through an already-booked holiday half-way his preparations, and last week had a wisdom tooth extracted after it was cracked in sparring.

However Quinn has come through the wars and he’s now ready to make his pro bow on the ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions’ card at the National Stadium.

“I’m perfect now, there’s nothing wrong with me, I’m grand so I am” Quinn told Irish-Boxing.com ahead of his first four rounder.

“I haven’t had as many spars as I’ve wanted to, but I’ve kept healthy, eaten well, trained very hard, and nothing’s going to get in my way.”

“I’m a different boxer already [since turning pro]. I’m after slowing my game down loads and I’m fitter.”

“I just want to get in now and get it done. I’ve everything ready, my boots, my shorts, all in a bag at the end of my bed ready to go.”

After a tough camp, ‘Wrecking Ball’ Quinn is promising to come out firing against Marcin Ficner [2(0)-17(7)-4].

Fans may remember the Polish puncher as the fighter who was sensationally stopped by Stephen McAfee on ‘Celtic Clash 2: The Rising’ back in May. Quinn was in the crowd that night, and now has a target set for his upcoming fight.

“I saw the fight, he [Ficner] is not the Mae West is he? I’ve seen a couple of his fights, he’s knocked one or two down, but he only he has two wins.”

“Stephen McAfee stopped him in the third round. I’ve sparred Stephen and there’s nothing really good about him, he’s an average boxer.”

“I personally think I’ll stop him in the second. The first I’ll come out and feel him, the second I’ll come out guns blazing. I’m going to get in there and I’m going to hurt this fella.”

“I’ll have eight ounce gloves on me… I hit hard in sixteen ounce gloves!”

“I’m going to get in there, let myself settle, and in the second round I’m going to come out and try take his head off.”

Some unfortunate timing with pre-arranged parties means that Quinn will ‘only’ be bringing around eighty to a hundred supporters on Saturday, but he promises that “once they see me on Saturday, there’ll be twice as many at the next one.”

Indeed, 30 year old Quinn wants to be moved quickly, and already has eyes on his domestic rivals.

He outlined how “this is my first one. I just want to get this out of the way. Then I’ll get another two and I’m going to call out someone who’s already had a good few fights. I know who it is already.”

Quinn is proudly sponsored by Cut Price Jewellers Meath Street, Halfway Cabs, and Crumlin Windows.

Headlined by the Eric Donovan v Dai Davies BUI Celtic featherweight title fight, the ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions’ card also features Regan Buckley v Carl McDonald, Gerard Whitehouse, James Cahill, Stephen McAfee, Martin Quinn, Aiden Metcalfe, Sean Creagh.
