Dan Miragliotta hastily separated the two during the stalemate. Lawler with a couple of kicks from distance. Gigantic right hand by Woodley and Lawler is flattened. More punches by Woodley and Lawler is out. We have ANOTHER new champion in this crazy year of MMA.
Official result: Tyron Woodley def. Robbie Lawler via KO (punches) at 2:12 of round 1 to become the new UFC welterweight champion
Woodley is just the 2nd man to ever finish Robbie Lawler with strikes, with Nick Diaz accomplishing the same feat in 2004. What a win for Woodley, who is “The Chosen One” to be the top dog in the UFC’s 170 lbs division.
