Viktor Postol to end layoff on Saturday

By Badlefthook.com

Postol has not fought in almost fourteen months

Boxing fans haven’t seen hide nor hair of former WBC Super Lightweight Champion Viktor Postol since his one-sided loss to Terence Crawford last year. As it turns out, “Iceman” is actually all set to get back in the ring on Saturday, taking on unbeaten Uzbek Jamshidbek Najmiddinov in a tune-up.

Postol (28-1, 12 KO) burst into prominence in 2015 with an upset knockout of Lucas Matthysse, setting up a unification match with Crawford. Despite close odds and a three-inch height advantage, Postol was no match for Crawford and suffered two knockdowns on his way to a unanimous decision defeat.

Postol now faces the uphill struggle of being a skilled, lengthy fighter without a belt with which to entice opponents. He’s still ranked #3 by the WBC behind Amir Imam and Regis Prograis, though, and could be in a position to be a mandatory challenger should Crawford make the move to 147 in the near future. Any specific fights you’d like to see him take in the meantime?
